High speed of work — large volumes of data can be collected in a short time due to the application of the remote technologies and mobile unmanned survey platforms. The high speed of data collection helps to reduce the total cost of work.

Ability to inspect large areas of underwater parts of structures with poor visibility, resulting in significant reduction or complete elimination of the necessity in the diver’s work. Ability to safely inspect assets with difficult access and dangerous zones, also in many cases, avoiding the need to interrupt the asset’s normal operations.

FAQ

SAMUS is a newly formed offshore survey company created by individuals with a massive passion for innovative technology. Unlike other companies, we don’t have a stockpile of the 10+ years old equipment sitting in the warehouse which needs to be shoved into a project. Our strive is to provide the best and the latest tech that’s available to the industry every single time, we do the job.

The “digital twin” is not just a 3D model referenced in real-world coordinates but an accurate digital representation of a physical asset, process or system as well as the associated engineering information that allows its performance to be fully understood and modelled. Traditional methods of collecting and representing 2D spatial data, such as maps and images, are no longer sufficient, and a complete upgrade of surveying tools and techniques able to deliver comprehensive, multi-dimensional, large-scale and high-resolution datasets is therefore absolutely necessary.

Acquiring data at a high-density and high-resolution allows us to depict even the smallest features which in the case of the subsea data immediately translates into safety since we can ensure confident detection of the small objects that may be posing danger to navigation: vertical piles, rocks and misplaced damaged gabions, anchors, chains, etc.

Rich 3D models lead to strong visual communication, superior insights and better decisions as they increase engagement, improve understanding and optimizes the experience when the user can freely navigate around the model and take measurements and more… And yes, we always offer our customers traditional map products such as elevation maps (elevation curves), profiles, bathymetric maps, point clouds and digital terrain models in both CAD and GIS formats.

Aerial mapping information is crucial to enable effective planning of the maritime space and sustainable management of the businesses and activities which require a coastal location such as the development and operation of commercial ports or marinas. The aerial mapping is based on the geo-information which includes location, coordinate and classification (geo-code) of the features derived from the fusion of LIDAR and Photogrammetric 3D data acquisition over a wide area using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) – air drones.

Photogrammetry is a method of obtaining information about physical objects and terrain through the recording, measuring and interpretation of photographic images. Photogrammetry uses methods from optics and projective geometry to allow the creation of 2D or 3D digital models. Using camera parameters and a series of images taken from different positions and aspects 3D information can be recovered in post-processing.

In Lidar (Light Detection and Ranging) a 3D target area is illuminated with a pulsed laser and the difference in reflected light return time and wavelength is measured. Lidar systems typically fire one million pulses per second with each processed return going into a 3D visualization know as a point cloud. Unlike Photogrammetry the LIDAR is a direct measurement technique.

To put it simply:

  • More accurate and complete data coverage that cannot be obtained by other types of surveying techniques
  • High speed of work – large volumes of data can be collected in a short time
  • Almost instantaneous 3D visualization of the surveyed asset
  • Much more complete information about the surveyed asset when creating its 3D model
  • Ability to inspect large areas of underwater parts of structures with poor visibility
  • Safety when inspecting assets with difficult access and dangerous zones
  • Full recording of the examination process

SAMUS partnering with you in stages

Tailored approach to your project – large or small

Phase – 1

Getting in touch

Fill out the contact form on our website leaving your details so SAMUS team could connect with you. Or go ahead and schedule a video conference meeting with us so we could get together and discuss the project plan outlining all the focal points of the inspection as well as the most suitable technology to meet your survey objectives.

Phase – 2

Conducting Survey

SAMUS survey team would arrive on site to carry out the data acquisition program putting highest emphasis on the quality and repeatability of the survey objectives that we previously agreed upon. We do our best that the asset owners could avoid interrupting the facility operations whilst maintaining the most stringent safety standards.

Phase – 3

Data Processing and QC

The gathered data from the various survey sensors are fast-track processed and blended together in accordance to the standardized workflow where multiple quality assurance and quality control steps are being made an integral part of the process.

Phase – 4

Deliverables and Reporting

SAMUS fusses together all the fully processed datasets to create what is called a digital twin of the surveyed site or facility. Our partners can take full advantage of the high specification sensors that had been applied in the acquistion phase by navigating and exploring through the digital 3D visualized environment the highly detailed and lifelike model of their psychical asset. The digital twin is also becoming a centralized access point for all the conventional datasets delivered as per the clients requests in various form and shapes such as CAD drawings, GIS geodatabases, PDF printouts, georeferenced imagery, and comprehensive technical reports.
